Truth be told, if I had listened to my parents, I would have gone straight into interior design after finishing high school. They saw the talent in me while watching me rearrange my bedroom furniture on an annual basis (via hand-drafted scale drawings no less). But I chose a different path and headed to business school instead, which lead to a career in the cosmetics industry – first in public relations and then in marketing and sales. After a decade of corporate life, I switched gears and let my passion for design and decorating take over.
In 2013 I became a Certified Interior Decorator and an Accredited member of the profession. I spent the first five years of my new career as a design consultant on the supplier side of the industry, gaining invaluable experience helping homeowners and fellow designers bring their design visions to life.
Armed with first-hand experience in custom millwork, closet design, fabrics, soft furnishings, and window treatments, I stepped out on my own in 2018 and opened Joanne Dolan Design, a boutique firm offering interior design services throughout the GTA.
And yes, I’ve allowed my parents a few “I told you so” brags!
